Paris is one of my favourite places on Earth, with some of the most beautiful architecture in Europe. It's also renowned for its vibrant fashion scene, legendary art, and world-class cuisine. However, finding suitable accommodation among the thousands of options in this city can be quite challenging. There are definitely areas you’ll want to avoid, and some hotels are known to have pest issues. If you're hoping for a view of the Eiffel Tower, be prepared to pay a hefty premium. Taking all of this into account, I chose a mid-range hotel in one of my favourite areas of Paris: Montmartre.
Montmartre feels like a village within the city. With its cobbled streets, vine-covered buildings, and artists painting in public squares, it offers a unique charm that’s hard to find elsewhere in Paris. Montmartre was the epicenter of Paris's bohemian art scene in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Legends like Picasso, Van Gogh, and Toulouse-Lautrec lived and worked here. Staying here gives you a feel for the artistic soul of Paris. In here, people gather to enjoy the sunsets at the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.
Hôtel des Arts Montmartre
The family-run Hôtel des Arts Montmartre has been under the same ownership for three generations. I loved the street where the hotel is located and its quaint façade. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, and three metro stations within easy walking distance, making it convenient to explore any part of Paris.
The hotel’s decor is modern while also paying tribute to Montmartre’s artistic heritage. Though the hotel is relatively small, it features a welcoming reception area with charming seating and a separate bar and breakfast space. I felt genuinely welcomed when the hospitable staff offered me a refreshing drink upon arrival, along with a complimentary beverage for later.
My Standard Double Room
I stayed in two different Standard Double Rooms, as my tour of France began and ended in Paris. Each room differs slightly in color and furniture placement, but all feature eye-catching headboards. My first room had a pink color scheme, while the second was green. I much preferred the second room, as it included a small balcony with a lovely view of the rooftops and the street. So, if you prefer natural light in your room, be sure to request one with a balcony.
All the rooms have carpeted floors, which I’ve always disliked, but this is fairly typical for Parisian hotels. The rooms were spacious by Parisian standards, although the shower was really compact. More importantly, everything was spotlessly clean. Each room came with complimentary macarons, a bottle of water, and tea and coffee-making facilities – all of which were very much appreciated!
The balcony was the highlight of my stay, and I definitely enjoyed having tea and macarons there while watching the world go by.
The Amenities of Hôtel des Arts Montmartre
The hotel features a gym and a hammam, both of which can be booked through the reception. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to try them on this trip – though I’m certain the hammam would have been a wonderful way to unwind after a long day of sightseeing.
For breakfast, the hotel offers two options: a light choice of one pastry with juice and a hot drink, or the full buffet. The buffet was simple but satisfying, with fresh bread, pastries, cakes, cereals, cold meats, cheeses, bacon, fruit salad, smoked salmon, fruit juice, eggs, scrambled eggs, and yoghurts. It was entirely self-service.
In Conclusion
Paris has a deep-rooted connection to fashion, music, art, and philosophy. Nearly every block holds a historic site or landmark, which makes me want to return to the city again and again. Hôtel des Arts Montmartre is a thoughtfully designed boutique hotel that combines comfort, warm hospitality, and a prime location. If you're looking to experience the charm of Montmartre while staying well-connected to Paris’s vibrant culture and transport, it’s an excellent choice.
