I decided to visit Poland during my autumn holiday, as the flight connection from Turku to Gdańsk with Wizz Air is very affordable. I have visited Poland several times before, so I know that the place to be is the Tricity — a region locals refer to as Trójmiasto. It consists of three cities: Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia, often considered the jewels of the Pomorskie region and Poland’s most popular holiday destination. This region was also recommended by Mondo Magazine, as it offers plenty to see and do. The magazine highlights Gdańsk’s Old Town and Zoo, the long pier and beautiful sandy beach of Sopot, and the sailboats and Science Center of Gdynia as places of particular interest.
I wanted to focus on nature walks and spa relaxation, so I chose the luxurious Hotel Quadrille as my base for exploring the region. The entire area is well-connected by public transport and can easily be explored without a car. Hotel Quadrille is an 11-minute walk from the nearest train station, yet it feels secluded, nestled within a lush park and surrounded by a peaceful residential neighborhood. This 18th-century palace is part of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux association, which brings together exclusive hotels and gourmet restaurants from around the world. This autumn, the hotel was awarded two Michelin Keys for the experience it delivers.
Hotel Quadrille
I was drawn to the adults-only Hotel Quadrille for its English Neo-Gothic architecture, fascinating history, and whimsical interior design. The decor is inspired by the world of Alice in Wonderland, a theme reflected in every carefully chosen detail. The hotel pays tribute to literature by naming each guest room after a famous writer, and even its name refers to the quadrille danced by the novel’s characters.
Before being transformed into a luxury hotel, the building served various purposes — it once housed the Polish Teachers’ Union, the First Academic High School of Gdynia, and later, the Gdynia Film School. During World War II, a branch of the Gestapo was stationed here, and the palace remarkably survived the war in good condition. In later years, an annex with 21 business-style rooms was added in the garden.
The annex building is connected to the palace by an underground tunnel. The gym and spa are also located in this newer addition. The rooms in the annex are sophisticated yet intentionally simple in design. We enjoyed the calm atmosphere, although at times the voices of other guests could be heard from our room. The bathroom was spacious and offered a fine selection of L’Occitane products with a lovely scent.
The Amenities in Hotel Quadrille
The White Rabbit restaurant offers traditional dishes elevated by contemporary culinary trends. Its specialties feature recipes based on local products and fresh, wholesome ingredients sourced from carefully selected producers. In my opinion, each dish on the 8-course tasting menu was imaginative, inventive, visually stunning and a true explosion of flavors. A playful touch is that the menu must be read through a small mirror. The breakfast buffet was equally delightful and full of local delicacies, offering something new to try each morning.
The atmospheric underground bar is called 10/6 Pub inspired by Mad Hatter’s Day. The bar offers the same à la carte menu as the White Rabbit restaurant, allowing guests to enjoy their meals here until later in the evening.
