The Yard in Bath, UK

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to visit Bath and see the buttery-hued Georgian architecture and ancient thermal springs. I was inspired by Jane Austen's books from an early age, and I believed that in Bath, I could experience that period English feel. I wanted to choose my accommodation from a historic building, but it was quite hard to find my favourite, as there were surprisingly many cozy boutique accommodations in this town. Then I came across The Yard in Bath, a boutique luxury hotel located in a carefully restored 18th-century building within walking distance from the main sights of the city: Bath Abbey, Royal Crescent, Roman Baths, and Pulteney Bridge. I knew I had found the right place to immerse myself in the charms of Bath!

The Yard in Bath

The attentive staff and the hands-on owners of The Yard will do their best to ensure you have a wonderful visit to this former coaching inn. This low-key hideaway opened in 2021. I was in love with the place as soon as I stepped into the lounge area through the metal-framed glass doors and was greeted with a smile and hospitality. The lounge was beautifully decorated with sandstone flooring, an eclectic mix of wooden chairs, green plants, and a bike! The space leads into the inviting courtyard with olive trees and color-matching high-back chairs. I immediately felt comfortable and welcome in this hotel.

The lounge leads to the reception area with a beautiful fireplace and the breakfast area with a bar. This space was full of character. I especially loved that they had lit candles everywhere, which gave the space a wonderful and warm ambiance.

My Classic King Room

All 15 rooms are decorated with sophisticated pastel hues. Each bedroom and ensuite combines traditional fabrics from local designers, unique restored historic features, and antique furniture, making each room different in style and design. In my opinion, this country-romantic style is quintessentially British and creates a perfect cottage-like atmosphere in the room.

The modern bathrooms have walk-in showers (mine came with a skylight!) and Bramley toiletries with the most beautiful scent. Showering in this bathroom felt super luxurious! I felt peace in my room. I only heard the birds, which made me feel like I was in the countryside. The classical music playing in the room was also very comforting.

They have four distinctive room categories: Cosy King (13 m²), Classic King (14 m²), Superior King (15 m²), and Deluxe King (20 m²). They recommend booking one of their larger rooms if you stay for more than one night. The best Deluxe Room at the back has a private roof terrace and a free-standing bathtub. However, since I was traveling solo, the Classic King Room was the perfect choice for this trip.

The Amenities of the Yard

The Yard has a welcoming café and a bar that extends out into the courtyard in the warmer months. The café serves delicious pastries and cake with tea and coffee. In the evenings, the space transforms into an inviting bar serving beer, wine, and signature cocktails. These can be enjoyed with local cheese, charcuterie, and nibbles.

The best part about this hotel was the complimentary breakfast hamper, which was hung on the door every morning! This breakfast in bed was a real treat for me and included locally sourced produce such as bread, granola, organic yogurt, fresh fruit salad, and freshly squeezed orange juice. If one wanted eggs, cold meats, cheese, salmon, and fresh bread in addition to the basket, one could opt to have a continental breakfast in the café. However, I was delighted to enjoy the breakfast in my pajamas at my own pace. Additionally, each room has a Nespresso machine for coffee, a selection of teas, and complimentary milk in the mini-fridge.

In Conclusion

Bath is a Jane Austen dream, and The Yard is a hidden gem just a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It embodies everything a boutique hotel should be: small, cozy, quaint, and full of the historic charm for which Bath is renowned. My stay here made me fall in love with the city and its distinctive architecture. Two nights proved ample time to explore Bath at my own pace, and I would recommend The Yard in a heartbeat to anyone visiting the city! It was evident from the attention to detail that the hotel takes great pride in maintaining a high standard in everything they do.
